The Executive Committee of the Guyana Fashion Weekend ( GFW) will be hosting the fourth Guyana Fashion Weekend, which showcases the very best in Guyanese designs from experienced designers and emerging young talent.
GFW is scheduled for October 30- 31, 2010 at the Pegasus Hotel. Close to 40 collections will be on show, and Western Union is proudly backing the event.
On Tuesday, Western Union presented a cheque for $ 150,000 to CEO of the GFW, Sonia Noel, at its Water Street head office.
In brief remarks, Marketing Manager Natheeah King noted that Western Union is fully behind the GFW, and is always elated to support the talent of Guyanese.
“We are always very happy to be a part of encouraging and supporting local talent, and will continue to do our part in this regard. We wish all the designers and organisers the best.” Noel, responding, said she is extremely pleased with the support of Western Union in what is expected to be an exciting explosion of colour, style, ingenuity, passion, and fine Guyanese craftsman ship.
She also stated that the month of October will be very busy for the committee, with a church service set for October 3 to start activities.
A GFW preview will be held on October 9, while a Breast Cancer Awareness Walk will take place on October 10, in collaboration with the Health Ministry; and, in the evening, there will be the launch of a plus-size fashion club and tea party.
Noel also reported that the GFW was successfully launched in Toronto and New York this year, to create more awareness in the diaspora.
