“Guyana Carnival” slated for May 18-27

The Guyana Carnival, an event that has been in the making for quite some time, will become reality between May 18 and 27, 2018, with the official launch set for December 2, in the Parking Lot of the Guyana Marriott Hotel.
The event was birthed as Guyana celebrated its 50th Independence Anniversary last year. The aim of the Guyana Carnival is to boost tourism in the country, since it is believed the Carnival has major economic benefits.
It is expected that from taxi drivers to hairdressers, clothing stores to hotels and airlines to restaurants will see an increase in business. It will also bring about much needed exposure to our local musicians and deejays.
Even before its launch, the event is already being marketed and promoted in the Caribbean and further afield.
As seen in other Caribbean islands, carnival is known for its energetic and dynamic showcase of culture and entertainment. It features revellers in elaborate costumes gyrating through the streets to the sound of sweet soca music, booming through the speakers of the various music systems.
However, the theme for Carnival Guyana 2018 is ‘Genesis’ and will target partyholics in the Diaspora and around the world, providing them with world-class events such as all-inclusive parties, concerts, boat rides, day tours and a grand costume day parade through the streets of Georgetown.
The all-inclusive packages will include hotel accommodation, admission tickets, costume, food, drinks and day tours to the country’s most fascinating tourist sites.
A list of fashion icons are already getting their bands ready and will undoubtedly give a glimpse of what Guyana Carnival is all about on December 2. After examining the various bands, revellers will have a choice to get registered and benefit from an all-inclusive, international standard road experience.
Patrons will receive a costume, goodies bag, lunch, snacks, free premium drinks and security all day while masquerading through the streets to some of the most versatile and renowned disk jockeys.
