Guyana accredits new UNDP representative

New UN Country Representative Ms Khadija Musa presenting her credentials to Foreign Affairs Minister, Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett

The Foreign Affairs Ministry on Tuesday accepted credentials presented by Khadjia Musa as United Nations (UN) resident coordinator and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) resident representative of Guyana.

Musa succeeds Dr Mamadou Kiari Liman-Tinguiri. She presented her credentials to Foreign Affairs Minister Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett. Prior to her appointment here, Musa served as deputy resident representative of the UNDP to Egypt where she was responsible for the management and implementation of development programmes.

A statement from the Guyana government congratulated Musa, noting that it remains committed to “further strengthening of its existing programme of co-operation with the UNDP which is supportive of national development priorities”.

Additionally, the statement said that the priorities include those aimed at alleviating poverty and realising the Millennium Development Goals by the 2015 United Nations target date.

“The government of Guyana therefore stands ready to support Ms Khadija Musa in the discharge of her responsibilities.” Chisa Mikami has been acting as UNDP’s country representative since Dr Mamadou Kiari Liman-Tinguiri demitted office.
