Guyana’s oldest funeral home celebrates 90th anniversary

In commemoration of the 90th anniversary of the Lyken/ Newburg Funeral Home, a cocktail reception and open house is planned to usher in the milestone on Monday, April, 2, at 18 Norton and John streets, Georgetown.
Ann Lyken, a partner and executive officer of Lyken’s, will deliver the feature address. Expected to be in attendance are President Donald Ramotar, Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, Home Affairs Minister Clement Rohee, Health Minister Bheri Ramsaran, U.S. Ambassador D Brent Hardt, Opposition Leader David Granger, other dignitaries, business colleagues and members of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce.
During its 90 years of existence, Lyken Funeral home has sponsored numerous youth and adult projects. It remains a leading supporter of Monique’s Caring Hands Support Centre, a non-governmental organisation located at John Street, Newburg. “We at Lyken Funeral Home appreciate the trust and confidence that the customers have placed in us by choosing our funeral home for the past 90 years. Families should take comfort in knowing that the Lyken family still owns 100 per cent of Lyken/Newburg Funeral Home, and there is a licensed funeral director to manage our establishment,” proprietor Gordon Lyken stated.
The business, he reiterated, is about family and tradition. Lyken said that the funeral homes remain committed to providing high-quality service, which has earned them the title of one of the most respected in the business.
