As the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company Limited (GT& T) continues to improve and expand its services, the company recently announced that it will be commissioning the Kupukari cellular site during the first quarter of 2013.
Acting Chief Financial Officer Sonita Jagan also revealed that the company will be erecting five new sites at interior locations, countrywide, all in an effort to make modern technology more accessible to residents outside of Georgetown.
According to the acting CFO, the company is steadfast in improving the services offered at interior locations, and the aim is to bring these areas on par with services offered on the coastland. She added that as a result of the creation of Mobile Money Guyana, the company has made the entire corridor from Mahaica, DSL-ready. This high speed internet access will benefit GT&T subscribers with fast and reliable service.
Once that kicks into gear, Jagan added that the service will be taken house to house so that all will benefit. Taking into consideration the development in Berbice, the telephone company will be laying its fibre-optic cable across the Berbice River.
The company recently announced that Wi- Fi services will be available at the University of Guyana, Turkeyen and Tain campuses and the Guyana National Stadium.  This, she added, is a sign that the company is keeping apace with technology, and it has been given the support to do so by its parent company, Atlantic Tele Network (ATN).
Jagan said too that the GT& T sponsored Jingle and Song Competition will commence on February 2 in Essequibo and it will be televised.  She added that the company is committed to giving talented young people the exposure they need to become a star. The top GT&T official also promised that this year the event will be more family-oriented and filled with excitement.
The company will be sponsoring the Children’s Float Parade as the directors thought that the company needs to give back to the community.
GT&T will also be involved in other national events such as the 175th Indian Arrival Anniversary celebrations, and the 250th anniversary of the 1763 Slave Rebellion. Jagan added that as the year progresses, the company will also be facilitating other activities.
