GT&T launches 2013 ‘Jingle and Song Competition’

The Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) on Friday launched the sixth session of its popular ‘Jingle and Song Competition’.
This year, the telephone giant has introduced an online component of the competition that will allow persons to do home videos, which can be uploaded to YouTube and their Facebook pages.
The persons with the most votes every week will be the winner of a GT&T BlackBerry phone.
This aspect of the competition will run simultaneously with the auditions that will be held throughout the country until the day of the grand finale.
According to GT&T Mobile Sales Coordinator Allison Dundas, the winner of the online competition will be eligible to participate at the final of the competition slated for February 22.
“However, the Jingle and Song Competition this year we are going to go to the various regions and audition starting from Saturday, and we are encouraging persons to come out and participate and to get registered now,” she stated.
Persons who are 16 years and older are eligible to enter the competition and must register by means of SMS from their GT&T mobile phone to 620 STAR (7827). Each text costs Gy$100.
“The competition is open to amateur singers from Guyana and are the owners and users of devices that are registered under GT&T,” she added.
Meanwhile, this year’s competition will not have two segments, but will be opened for all genres of music.
Dundas said persons entering the competition must have the ability to sing any type of song, while being an amateur singer.
The GT&T representative told media operatives that plans are in place to ensure that the competition is a success.
Auditions will commence in February in the mining town of Linden, then to Berbice and Essequibo and back to Georgetown for the final showdown.
The winner of the competition will be taking home the grand prize of a brand new motor car.
Those applicants who register during the registration window and prior to registration cut off will receive, by SMS text, the date, time and location for their auditions.
The top five finalists will be required to take part in GT&T sponsored and approved promotions and public events which will be governed by contestants’ agreements.
They may also have the opportunity to perform at the company’s sponsored show and events during the following year under terms which have also been stated in their agreements.
Last year, over 1000 persons auditioned for the competition, and in the end, Brandon Hardin of Linden walked away as champion.
