Police in A Division (Georgetown-East Bank Demerara) are investigating the murder of an East Bank Demerara (EBD) carpenter whose body was dumped in a gutter outside the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Dead is 28-year-old Shafiyq Forrester of Lot 197 Sarran Street, Grove Squatting Area, EBD.
According to Public Relations Officer, Jairam Ramlakhan, Forrester’s body was discovered in a drain outside the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts about 07:00h on Sunday. His body was subsequently identified by relatives.
While details surrounding Forrester’s death are unclear, a post-mortem examination conducted on Wednesday morning by State Pathologist, Dr Nehaul Singh revealed that victim died from asphyxiation due to drowning, compounded by compression injuries to the neck and blunt trauma to the head.
The Police said a ‘person of interest’ is currently being sought for questioning into the carpenter’s death.
Meanwhile, relatives of the now dead man were too distraught to speak in detail with reporters but managed to relate that Forrester was last seen on Saturday. Guyana Times International understands that after the man did not return home that night, they became worried and begun to search for him on Sunday morning.
Forrester leaves to morn his wife of one year, who is currently five months pregnant with their first child.
