GPOC reports mail from Canada delayed

The Guyana Post Office Corporation has reported delays in mail coming from Canada, since these are being routed through Jamaica.

The Postal Administration in Canada has since written its local counterpart advising that it has been routing mail and packages through Jamaica since December 2010, as a consequence of measures put in place by the United States Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

The Canadian Administration has also noted that there have been delays in the further conveyance of mail from Jamaica to Guyana.

The advisory from Canada Post stated in part that, “as a result of the U.S. Aviation Security directive, mail from Canada sent to Central American, South American and Caribbean destinations has experienced delays.”

It went on to note that they “are working with transportation providers to the best of our ability to maintain the level of service expected of us.”

The Guyana Post Office Corporation has promised to provide updates regarding this situation as information becomes available from Canada Post.

The GPOC has assured the public that it remains committed to the expeditious delivery of mail and packages as soon as they arrive in Guyana.
