Reaching out to the needs of Bartica: President Bharrat Jagdeo speaking with residents of Bartica, Region Seven during a visit on April 16, when a series of community meetings were held

President Bharrat Jagdeo has assured residents of Bartica that they will also soon be realising their dreams of home ownership when his administration activates a housing programme in the area.

The head of state delivered the news while on a visit to the region on Saturday, April 16th, for a series of community meetings that also included a visit to the operations of the BK Quarries on the bank of the Essequibo River.

President Jagdeo was accompanied by a visiting team that included presidential candidate of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) Donald Ramotar, Minister of Housing and Water Irfaan Ali, and Minister of Transport and Hydraulics Robeson Benn.

He told residents that there are foreseeable challenges in the process as a result of the topography of Bartica as against the flatlands on the Coastal Plain, but he remains optimistic that the progamme can be successfully executed, the Government Information Agency reported.

The right of every Guyanese to own his/ her own land and house has been a key pillar of the administration; and, according to President Jagdeo, the government is resolute in fulfilling this policy.

“This is one of the things that have characterized the PPP government, so I hope that in Bartica we can work with you also to keep this trend going,” President Jagdeo told the residents.

During the meeting, residents were given the opportunity to engage the president on several community concerns.

The meeting also included residents of some of the riverine communities.
