Candigarh, India, CMC – West Indies opener Chris Gayle has advanced three places in the latest ICC One-Day International batting rankings released on Monday.
The big-hitting left-hander, who has had a relatively productive ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 campaign, is now 12th in the rankings, which continue to be led by prolific South Africa opener Hashim Amla.
Gayle has scores of two against South Africa, 80 against The Netherlands, and 37 not out against Bangladesh in his three innings so far, which have helped lead West Indies to two wins in three matches in Group B. Last Friday, he became the fourth West Indian, after Brian Lara, Desmond Haynes and Shiv Chanderpaul, to make 8,000 runs in ODIs.
Veteran left-hander Shiv Chanderpaul has had no such success, and has dropped two places, but remains in the top 20.
England’s Jonathan Trott, meanwhile, stormed into the top 20 by jumping nine places to be tied 13th with India’s Gautam Gambhir.
Trott, the hard-working right-hander, has scored heavily in the World Cup, already gathering 222 runs to be the fourth highest run-getter.(windiescricket)
