The Guyanese and American Business and Professional Council (GABPC) has honoured Assistant Chief Diana L. Pizzuti, Commanding Officer of Patrol Borough Queens North as part of the Women’s History Month observances in March. During the VIP Cocktail Reception and Networking event, the female law enforcement officer received recognition for her effective role with the business community in New York.

GABPC Executive Director, Shanie Persaud, who is Guyanese, said “Chief Pizzuti has exemplified everything that you possibly can think of when it comes to supporting businesses and how the police force should work with businesses.”

Pizzuti, a former Commanding Officer of the Police Academy, also served as Commanding Officer of the 17th Precinct, Midtown Precinct North, and the Corruption Prevention Division of the Internal Affairs Bureau. Her 29-year police career includes assignments in patrol, internal investigations and training. She worked uniformed patrol in the Bronx, Queens and Manhattan South, and performed plainclothes duty as an undercover/decoy during narcotics and vice operations. She became the Department’s first female Commanding Officer of the Police Academy in 2002. Among her awards are the Policewomen’s Endowment Association Woman of the Year, a Citation of Merit from the Bronx Borough President, the Ellis Island Medal of Honor and the New York City Public Service Award

This is the first such event for GABPC and would be a permanent feature on its calendar, Persaud said. Among those present at the event were Queens Borough President, Helen Marshall who is Guyanese, other New York City and State officials, and members from the public and private sectors.
