From the way it looks, elections will be held this year

Dear Editor,

I was happy to read in the press that President Jagdeo once again made it clear that elections will be held this year. These remarks come at a time when sections of the media and some elements in the opposition parties continually pronounce on the possibility of a delay to be engineered by the president.

Clearly this is not the intent of Mr Jagdeo. In fact, it appears that the opposition parties, particularly the PNCR, are hopeful of such a delay, which they believe will give them much-needed time to organise and mount a credible fight.

Instead of harbouring this false hope, it would serve them well to get their act together and at least try to marshal some support, since they seem to have very little at the moment.

Yours truly,

Dave Martindale
