Former teacher remanded on “sexual activity with a child” charge

Former Bishops’ High School teacher, Coen Jackson, was on Thursday morning arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and charged with rape of child.
Jackson, 39, was not required to plead to the indictable charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Leron Daly.

ACCUSED: Coen Jackson

The court heard that between December 2010 and May 2011, at Durban Street, Lodge, Georgetown Jackson engaged in sexual activity with a child under the age of 16 and abused his position of trust.
He was remanded to prison and is expected to reappear on March 15, 2018.
After three months of being implicated in a sex scandal which alleged that he had been sexually involved with students while being a teacher attached to the Bishops’ High School, the Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP) recommended that Jackson be charged with “sexual activity with a child by abusing the position of trust”.
Last year, news of the alleged sexual misconduct of Jackson was publicised on social media.
Jackson however, vehemently denied the accusations on numerous occasions but did admit to having sexual relations with two former students who are now both in their early 20s. (Ramona Luthi)
