One day after having his services terminated as Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice) Regional Representative of the Office of the Prime Minister, controversial Member of the Alliance For Change (AFC) Abel Seetaram made his first court appearance on Tuesday to face dangerous driving charges.

The matter was called on Monday at the Blairmont Magistrate’s Court but Seetaram did not make an appearance. He had not appeared on either of the two previous occasions the matter was called.

However one day after he was fired as the Prime Ministerial Representative to Region Five, he went to court.

Seetaram has been charged with dangerous driving, breach of insurance and being an unlicensed driver. He is still to answer to those charges.

On May 8 around 21:00h, Seetaram allegedly lost control of the Government vehicle he was driving and ripped through the Bushlot Market fence, damaging a section of a nearby building.

It was also alleged that at the time of the accident, he was under the influence of alcohol.

Divisional Commander, Assistant Commissioner Ian Amsterdam had told the media that the Police were experiencing some difficulty in getting his alcoholic level tested following the accident.

While the Police are still investigating the case, no charges have been brought against Seetaram for driving while allegedly being under the influence of alcohol.

Police officers on the West Coast of Berbice have reported that on several occasions, the AFC official appeared to be under the influence.

On September 14, 2015, Seetaram was appointed as Special Representatives for the Prime Minister in the region. He was tasked with the responsibility of working with the public on issues which could be addressed through the Office of the Prime Minister.
