Fly Jamaica in talks to begin operations in Guyana

Fly Jamaica is in talks with local authorities to commence flights out of Guyana, but the airline is concentrating on getting certification for Toronto, Canada before moving to Guyanese shores.
A senior source at Fly Jamaica confirmed that the airline is currently operating from Kingston, Jamaica to the John F Kennedy airport, New York.

In September 2011, directors of Wings Aviation spearheaded the formation of Fly Jamaica Airways Limited and it received approval from the U.S. Department of Transportation, the Federal Aviation Administration and the Transportation Security Administration, to operate commercially into the U.S.
The airline’s CEO, Reece added that in terms of Caribbean private sector integration, the company has created history with the launch of the airline.
Meanwhile, Guyana Civil Aviation Authority Director General Zulfikar Mohamed said the airline’s documentation is still being examined. In February, Works Minister Robeson Benn said government was being very meticulous with the new airline, given the experiences with REDjet and EZjet.
Both airlines folded after a few months of operation. He said that government needs to have information on the major investors of such undertakings.
Benn added that government has to be interested in whether there is viability and sustainability in financing for that operation, which is a standard requirement anywhere in the world.
