The Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida is reaching out to Guyanese students, offering them the chance to discover careers in non-traditional areas, such as arts, media, and technology.
Sandra Lizama, a representative of the University who is currently in Guyana, has encouraged students from various schools to take advantage of the programmes and scholarships that are available for Guyanese students at the foreign institution.
Lizama has said that her coming to Guyana will not only bring awareness to Full Sail, but awareness of careers in other fields.
She said she has already visited other Caribbean countries and, from experience, has found that many persons still gravitate towards traditional fields.
She has pointed out that there are other career areas of which people can take advantage. “Besides, the Full Sail University focuses on arts, media and technology, and the relationship of business in these fields,” she added.
During her stint in Guyana, Lizama is expected to deliver presentations at the Mae’s Secondary School, Georgetown International Academy (GIA), School of the Nations, Marian Academy, and the Bishops’ High School.
According to reports, the presentations should cover all the programmes offered at the university, some of which include computer animation, visualisation and simulation, game design, media and communication, among others.
Lizama disclosed that there are scholarships available to Guyanese students, and anyone interested can contact her at sandra.lizama@fullsail.com
She has said that she is willing to give information, guidance on the application process, or even to help introduce these non-traditional areas of study and careers to parents.
