Discarded West Indies left-arm spinner Suleiman Benn has been included in the Georgetown Pitbulls squad for the Jam Zone Masters’ Cup T20 competition on August 12 and 14.

With 51 wickets from 17 Tests, 25 ODIs, and 17 T20 Internationals under his belt, Benn is one of the more experienced spinners in the West Indies, but he has not featured in the regional side since the World Cup, due to what the WICB described as a bad World Cup report.

Georgetown Pitbulls squad will be led by former West Indies Captain Guyanese Ramnaresh Sarwan, and includes Trinidadians Keiron Pollard and Navin Stuart, along with Jamaican left-arm pacer Krishmar Santokie.

Guyana’s latest West Indies cricketer Christopher Barnwell, former Test opener Travis Dowlin, and Deon Ferrier, who was a member of Guyana’s historic 2006 Stanford Championship side, are also in the strong city line-up.

The Hits & Jams Super Stars are expected to be named this week after their final round of trials; but with the confrontational Chris Gayle, energetic West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, all- rounder Andre Russell, and Danza Hyatt in their line-up, plenty of fireworks can be expected in the four-team competition.

Defending national T20 champions, Berbice, with Test cricket’s latest spin bowling find, Davendra Bishoo, and West Indies players Narsingh Deonarine, Sewnarine Chattergoon and Jonathon Foo in their lineup, are expected to have a large following from the Ancient County. New Line Cavaliers, who are slated to include West Indies opener Lendl Simmons and Ryad Emrit in their side, are the other team involved.

Two matches with be played on August 12, at 17:00h and 21:00h, under lights at the Providence Stadium to kick off the annual Jam Zone Summer Break 2011, organised by top local promotion group Hits and Jams Entertainment.

Another two matches, including the grand final, are scheduled for the same venue and at the same times on August 14. The official launching of the competition was done on Monday, July 25 at the office of the Youth Sport and Culture Minister.

The competition is sanctioned by the Guyana Cricket Board, and a GCB representative, Hits and Jams Entertainment, captains of the teams, and Guyana’s Sport Minister Dr Frank Anthony were all present at the launching.
