Final horse race event set for Boxing Day

Over $5 million will be at stake when the 2010 horse racing seasons comes to an end on December 26 (Boxing Day) with the staging of the Kennard Memorial Turf Club’s (KMTC) grand one-day meet at Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne, Berbice.

Nine exciting races are carded for the day, with the feature event being the ‘B’ & Lower winner-take-all (W/A) race which carries a winning purse of G$1 million. This race is being sponsored by the Kharag family of New York for the second year in succession. 

According to head of the KMTC, Justice Cecil Kennard, the main race is expected to be fiercely competitive, with some of the country’s top thoroughbreds battling for supremacy. Action is set to gallop-off at 13:00hrs. Kennard revealed that Annise Playmate, Irish Gel, Miss Republic, The Message, Sweet Revenge, On the Rock with Salt, and Prince Charming are among the leading contenders for the day’s top prize. 

The main supporting race will be the Three-year-old Open, which has G$400,000 up for grabs for the champion horse and jockey. Other races carded for the day include the ‘G’ and Lower; ‘K’ & ‘L’ W/A; Two-year-old (Guyana bred); ‘F’ and Lower W/A; I3 Maiden and ‘J’ & Lower W/A; Two-year-old (West Indian bred); and the I & Lower W/A.

All rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority will be in effect.
