World number 24 Nicolette Fernandes suffered a first round defeat at the hands of England’s Jenny Duncalf in the Windy City Open in Chicago, USA.

The Guyanese squash ace lost in straight sets to crash out of the tournament. The game lasted 37 minutes with the first set being the most competitive; as Duncalf was stretched during her 12-10 win.

She would go on to take the second set 11-7, before wrapping up the victory in the third set at 11-5.  Duncalf was seeded 13th in the competition, while Fernandes was unseeded.

Prior to the defeat, Fernandes had finished runner-up in both the Granite Open and the Winnipeg Winter Club Open on the PSA Tour in January.

Whether the defeat will affect her ranking would be known today when the monthly update is made by the Women’s International Squash Players Association (WISPA).
