President David Granger, pursuant to powers under article 188(2) of the Constitution of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, has granted Presidential Pardon to one woman prisoner, whom he considered fit and proper to receive such pardon.
According to a release from the Ministry of the Presidency, this Presidential Pardon shall be effective as from May 25, 2018, in observance of the 52nd Independence Anniversary of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.
That woman prisoner is from New Amsterdam Prison, namely, Shremattie Singh, 30 years old.
The prisoner served a portion of her sentence for false pretence.
“It is expected that this expression of compassion and humanity by His Excellency will result in this prisoner reuniting with her family and leading a good and useful life hereon,” the MotP said.
