Father of 5 fatally struck down while going to purchase bread

Police say they are investigating a fatal accident which occurred around 21:00h on Tuesday night on the Wallers Delight Public Road, West Coast Demerara (WCD) that resulted in the death of pedestrian Mohamed Nazim, age 44.

Felicia Persaud, 30, the daughter-in-law of the deceased, was injured in the accident. The vehicle involved in the accident, a Jeep bearing registration plates PTT 779, was driven by a 43-year-old resident of Meten-Meer-Zorg, WCD.
According to the Police, the vehicle was proceeding East along the northern carriageway, allegedly at a fast rate. It struck the pedestrians who, along with other family members, were crossing the road from South to North.
In an unconscious state, Nazim and Persaud were rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
However, Nazim died while receiving medical attention and Persaud was treated and admitted in a stable and now conscious condition. The driver who was administered a breathalyser test and found to have negative alcohol readings in his breath, has since been detained and is assisting with the investigation.
The dead man was reportedly struck down by the vehicle as he was walking with his son and daughter-in-law to a nearby shop to purchase a loaf of bread.
The deceased, who resided at Wallers Delight, leaves to mourn five children who at the time of his death, were all in his care since their mother passed away three years ago.
