A Soesdyke man on Tuesday appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry for a third murder charge.
John Blanchard, 31, a vendor of Dr Charles Sand Road, Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts to answer to another charge of murder.
The defendant was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which stated that on October 11 at Dr Charles Sand Road, being armed with two knives, he murdered Joy Blanchard, six, by stabbing her.
On October 14, the accused appeared in court to answer to the charge of murder. It was stated that he stabbed to death Belika and Daniel Blanchard, aged ten and four respectively.
On Tuesday’s hearing, Blanchard was represented by Attorney Peter Hugh, who made an application for his client to receive psychiatric evaluation to deter mine if he is fit to stand trial.
Prosecutor Stephen Telford objected to the application made by the defence, stating that there was no evidence presented in court to show that the accused is in need of the evaluation.
The defence attorney replied that based on what he was told and conversations he had with the accused, he is making the application.
The accused was further remanded to prison and will return to court on December 5.
