Farmer remanded for selling drugs to police

A man was on Friday remanded to prison by Magistrate Sueanna Lovell for selling drugs to a police officer.

Colin Simons, 30, of Lot 20 East La Penitence, Georgetown, made an appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts to answer to the charge of trafficking narcotics. The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on October 26 at East La Penitence, he sold 2g cannabis and 2g cocaine to a police officer.

Prosecutor Jairam Luckhai stated that on the day in question an undercover police officer went to the defendant and bought the narcotics, for which the officer paid him with a marked Gy$500 note. The officer then identified himself as a police officer and told the defendant of the allegation against him. When Simons was searched the marked Gy$500 note was found on him and he was subsequently charged.

The magistrate remanded the defendant and transferred the matter to Court One for November 3.
