Farmer busted with cocaine

Ranks of the Guyana Police Force’s Narcotics Branch in G Division (Essequibo Islands-Coast) on Tuesday morning arrested a citrus farmer after he was busted with a quantity of cocaine.
The discovery was made after Police received a tip.
According to reports, the Police went to the Upper Pomeroon River area early Tuesday morning where they conducted a search on the farmer’s premises.
During the search, they unearthed 2.22 kilograms of cocaine. The narcotic was wrapped in two parcels.
The farmer was taken into custody and was being processed for court.
Earlier this month, a joint destruction operation saw a total of 477 kilos of cocaine destroyed at Yarrowkabra, Linden-Soesdyke Highway.
The exercise was conducted by the Guyana Police Force, which destroyed 132 kg cocaine, and the Customs-Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU), which got rid of 345 kg cocaine.
The two agencies also destroyed a combined total of 994 kilos of cannabis. The cocaine and cannabis destroyed carried a combined street value of G$513,310,940.
The narcotics destroyed were tested by members of the Guyana Forensic Science Laboratory before being burnt by fire.
