Elections set for November 28

November 28 is Election Day in Guyana. President Bharrat Jagdeo made that announcement on Sunday at the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) rally in Kitty.

This will give the 17 political parties slated to contest the regional and national elections six weeks to field their candidates. The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has already indicated that everything would be in readiness by November 14.

The main players: the ruling PPP/C, the recently-formed coalition A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), and the Alliance For Change (AFC), have begun campaigning in earnest.
