A 27-year-old pedestrian was killed after being struck by motorcar, PYY 3475, while attempting to cross the roadway in the wee hours of Monday morning.
He has being identified as Ryan Hirman of Herstelling, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
Reports are between 00:45h and 01:00h, Hirman was standing along the Eccles Public Road, EBD, and attempted to cross the main roadway from the eastern side while heading in a western direction.
However, at that time, motorcar, PYY 3475 was proceeding north along the eastern carriageway and collided with Hirman.
This newspaper was told that the 21-year-old, who was driving the vehicle, alleged that Hirman’s body came into contact with the left side of the motor car and this resulted in the now dead man falling onto the road’s surface.
Hirman was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead.
According to the police, the 21-year-old driver was subjected to a breathalyser test, and the results determined that he was above the legal alcohol consumption limit.
Police ranks impounded the car and the driver was taken into custody.
Just three days ago, 20-year-old pedal cyclist, Lennox Collette died after his bicycle collided with a motorcar along the Land of Canaan Public Road, EBD.
Reports are at about 21:00h on Saturday, motor car PHH 2714 was being driven by a 24-year-old man when it struck the cyclist.
Collette is said to have fallen onto the bonnet of the vehicle as a result of the impact and then landed on the roadway. Collette died while receiving medical attention.
