Team Cocos talisman Hamzah Eastman showed great strength and stamina to crown a fruitful weekend on the saddle winning the R&R International double.
The historic double began on Saturday in the National Park when Hamza Eastman (2nd place in photo) had to battle hard to get to the front
In the process, he successfully defended his road race title on Sunday making it the first time in the event’s 27-year history that a rider has won it back to back.
The race which started at Schoonord, West Bank Demerara and turned back at Bushy Park and back to the point of origin for the finish, saw Eastman completing the 46-mile route in a time of one hour 43 minutes and 14 seconds (01:43:14).
He had to fend off fierce competition and heavy rain but did so just ahead of Paul De Nobrega (Team Evolution) as was the case on Saturday when the riders tackled the inner circuit of the national park.
We Stand United’s Deeraj Garbarran recorded his best finish of the season to finish third while Trojan’s Romello Crawford clocked in fourth and Jamaul John (Cocos) and Christopher Griffith (Evolution) finished the top six in that order.
Meanwhile, in the Juniors division, Adelie Hodge was successful while Briton John who won the equivalent of the event in the national park the previous day settled for second and Ajay Motilall completed the top three.
We Stand United’s Mario King notched up his first win of the season in the mountain bike category ahead of Shane Bourne.
Also, Junior Niles was dethroned as Warren “40” McKay stole top honours in the veterans’ category.
