“There is not much one can say to ease your sense of lost at this moment, Bahan Chitra (Moti Lall’s wife), I want you to know that our sincere prayers and thoughts are with you, the children and the entire family during this difficult time of grief, separation and sorrow,” the release said.

The organisation said nevertheless, “nothing we surrender to God is lost”. “This world can never offer total comfort for the pain you feel, only God can. In the pain that you are feeling right now, please remember that you are never alone, know that God, who loves you deeply, is holding out His tender and loving arms to comfort you, and that prayers will encourage your heart with its message of God’s love for you, especially in your time of loss.”

Also in a tribute, the PPP/ C said the life of Dr Lall was fulfilling and purposeful as a servant of the people, especially through his medical practice.

“Throughout his life he demonstrated unwavering commitment to the development of Guyana, and displayed his love for his country through his struggle for democracy and freedom, the poor and the disenfranchised. He was a former Member of Parliament for the PPP, chairman of the board of the Central Housing and Planning Authority, president of the Guyana Chest Society and a Central Committee Member of the party,” the PPP/C said in its release.

Dr Lall is remembered within the health sector as an ardent advocate for better healthcare and was specifically instrumental in the establishment and advancement of the Hansens’ Disease Programme in Guyana at the West Demerara Regional Hospital.

“He made a valuable contribution to the PPP/C and his country and we must therefore find comfort in knowing that his sacrifices and kind deeds have contributed immensely in the creation of a better life for all our people,” the party said.

The PPP/C joins his wife, children other relatives and friends in mourning the loss of Dr Lall, the release concluded.

Also giving tribute was Agriculture Minister, Dr Leslie Ramsammy. Dr Ramsammy said he has known Dr Lall for decades, noting that they both served in the public health sector together for the last 15 years.

“I am profoundly saddened by the death of my comrade and I believe Guyana has lost a patriot and a dedicated son. The tuberculosis programme and the Health Ministry have become diminished by the death of this dedicated son. Dr Moti Lall, MD, DPT MS and former Member of Parliament of Guyana, served the health sector with distinction above and beyond the call of duty.

“Dr Lall worked tirelessly toward eradication of TB in Guyana, and following the conversion of the Best Sanatorium in 1986 to the West Demerara Hospital, he continued to serve the public through several chest clinics nationwide. Dr Motilall at the time of his death was the president of the Guyana Chest Society, a society that has existed for almost 100 years in Guyana. He served as chairman of the Central Housing and Planning Authority and was an active member of the PPP/C” said Minister Ramsammy.
