The West Indies Under-19 squad received Samsung Galaxy Note devices from telecommunication giants Digicel for their brilliant World Cup performance that saw the regional side lifting their maiden title in the tournament.

The squad received the tokens at a special reception held at the Accra Beach Hotel in Barbados on Tuesday.

CEO for Digicel Barbados, Conor Looney, congratulated the West Indies cricket U-19 team on their championship in the 2016 ICC U-19 World Cup at a reception,

“Today is a historic day for you, for the sport of cricket, the eight countries that you represent and for the Caribbean people – and as a proud sponsor of West Indies cricket since 2004, Digicel is delighted to be a part of this celebration this evening.

“This victory augurs well for Digicel and for the region in a number of ways. For one, as a brand that supports youth development through sports, this is a great motivator for the youths who aspire to cricket beyond national borders.

Secondly, we know that cricket fans will take the energy, excitement and sense of pride from this thrilling victory into the fast-approaching 2016 Caribbean Premier League season.”

Looney continued, “Over the past few weeks, the region was proud to watch your journey in this tournament – a journey that has been exemplified by your grit and determination to win. You are a fine squad of hardworking young men and you are a credit to the Caribbean region.”

The under-19 squad toppled India in the final of the World Cup by five wickets to lift the coveted title.
