Dharry out of Fraser bout

‘Now people would see who’s really afraid’- Fraser

Rudolph Fraser will face a new opponent, and have a shot at a different title, but his focus remains the same: train hard, execute the fight plan and come out victorious.
Fraser, the 35-year-old Albouystown pugilist, was long clamouring for a shot at the USA-based Elton ‘Coolie Bully’ Dharry, and the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) granted his wish earlier this month by announcing that the two would go at each other in the main event on the June 29 ProAm boxing card for Dharry’s Super Bantamweight belt of Guyana.
However, a source close to the GBBC yesterday told this publication that Dharry has been scratched off the card, and replaced with Dominican Republic-based Guyanese Clive Atwell, who will now face Fraser for the vacant featherweight title of Guyana.
Guyana Times International Sport understands that Dharry, although initially accepting the offer to fight Fraser, related to the GBBC earlier this week that he was not in a state of preparedness for the much-anticipated bout.
Speaking to this publication via telephone on Wednesday, Fraser, with a record of six wins, two losses and a draw, was equally disappointed as he was not surprised by Dharry’s snub.

He said Dharry has been escaping his radar from as far back as 2005, when he offered to fight him while in Canada and Dharry had refused. “This is not the first time he has pulled out…I hope people would now see who’s really afraid,” Fraser, who had to come down from 130 pounds to 122 for the clash with Dharry, remarked. “I had to make the sacrifice to make the weight for this fight, now he aint want fight. Trust me; I don’t think I want to fight him anymore.”
Fraser added, “Definitely, I think he’s afraid, cause he coming to fight everybody else in Guyana, why he can’t come now?”
Venting his anger, Fraser further added that he’s not afraid of any boxer, and emphatically stated that he would even take up the offer to fight Philippine’s Manny Pacquiao. Efforts by this publication to get a comment from Dharry proved futile.
Meanwhile, Atwell has never tasted defeat in his short professional career, with four wins and a draw in five bouts. His last fight was in October last year when he earned a unanimous decision over Orlon ‘Pocket Rocket’ Rogers.

The main supporting bout will see Edmond De Clou putting his middleweight title of Guyana on the line against Trinidad and Tobago-based Joel McRae in a twelve-rounder, while Kwesi Jones will face Kelsey George in a six-round light heavyweight bout, and debutant Gladwin Dorway will confront David Thomas in a four-round junior welterweight clash.
The ProAm card is a collaborative effort of the GBBC, the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association, NCN, and the Sport Ministry aimed at showcasing the abundance of amateur talent and enhancing the profiles of the professionals.
