Dharmic Sabha hosting Hindu singer, tabla expert

The Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha will be hosting two artistes from India – singer Payal Seen and tabla expert Pandit Kinaar Seen – who will perform and teach Indian music in Demerara and Berbice.

The sabha said in a release that the artistes would teach vocals and playing of the tabla. The first session was held at the Dharmic Sanskritik Kendra commencing on Sunday, August 7 at 14:00h, and sessions will continue daily thereafter until August 13, 2011. Classes will also be held at Ocean View Mandir, West Coast Demerara, from Monday, August 8, to Saturday, August 13.

Classes were held at the Tain Kendra, Corentyne, from Sunday, August 7 to Wednesday, August 11.

A one-day workshop was held at Bath Shri Krishna Mandir, West Coast Berbice, on Thursday, August 11, at which time there were demonstrations of tabla playing and vocal music. The sabha said it has been promoting vocal music at its kendra and has scheduled the annual Kala Utsav for November 27, 2011.
