Devon Davis receives his spoils of competition after winning the overall title

Guyana Defence Force’s athlete, Devon Davis, continued to build on his success of 2012 by claiming the prestigious title of Mr. Guyana on Saturday evening when the Guyana Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (GABBFF) staged the Senior Championships at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Dubbed ‘Rise of the Machines’, the event attracted the leading bodybuilders in various weight classes vying for supremacy in front of a vociferous crowd. When the dust eventually settled just before midnight, it was Davis, the 2012 Central American and Caribbean gold medallist, who was attracting the attention of the cameras as he proudly posed on the makeshift stage with his winnings.
By winning the title, the diminutive Davis displaced Lindener Clint Duke, who entered the competition as defending champion and one of the favourites.
Davis, Duke, Anthony Rogers, Rudolph Blackman, Andel Cameron and Alfred London lined up for the overall title after they emerged victorious in their respective categories earlier in the evening. Davis, as he had done at the third Hugh Ross Classic earlier this year at the National Cultural Centre, won the bantamweight division, leaving Melroy Grant to settle for second and Yogeshwar Nirmal, third.
Duke of Total Fitness Gym maintained his stranglehold on the light middleweight division, beating off competition from Delon Harlequin and William Ward.
Rogers’ passage to contest for the overall title was guaranteed after he copped the lightweight title ahead of Alston Lancaster and London, while Blackman won the welterweight category ahead of Selwyn Grogan, second, and Sherman Haynes, third.
In the clash of heavyweights, Cameron reigned supreme over Michael de-Santos and Al Dowding, who placed second and third respectively, while London prevailed in the Masters Over-40 category.
The multi-talented Alisha Fortune of Body Maxx Gym won both the Miss Body Fitness and the Miss Open Fitness; Nadina Taharally of Interline Fitness was runner-up on both occasions.
