The management of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation has invited Nirmela Govinda, who was one of the top students at this year’s Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations, to complete a one- week rotation in the Department of Orthopaedics at the hospital.

This initiative was taken in light of Govinda’s reported desire to become a bone specialist, GPHC said in a release. Govinda will be oriented to the department under the direct supervision of GPHC’s Head of Orthopaedics, Dr David Samaroo, and she will visit the wards and clinics, and interact with the patients.

“In addition to the yearly work study and attachment programmes that the hospital undertakes, it is management’s intention to extend this offer to those students who would have attained similar or greater achievements in Guyana,” the release said. This will be done on a continuous basis for those who are desirous of being a part of a dynamic institution, and who are willing to learn from the best in the respective disciplines.

“Management is again very happy to have Ms Govinda, who commenced her rotation this morning, Monday 22 August 2011, on board, and wish her much success in all of her endeavours,” the GPHC release said.
