Residents of Craig Village, East Bank Demerara were on Wednesday afternoon plunged into a state of shock following the gruesome murder of a woman who was discovered with her head almost severed from her body, along with several stab wounds. The woman was identified as Sita Reddy, 54, a mother of six of 139 Craig Village, East Bank Demerara. She was reportedly discovered by her husband, Norman Reddy at about 13: 30h in the bottom flat of their two-storey house. Three men reportedly went to the house prior to the discovery. It is being speculated that the three men went under the pretext of purchasing plucked chicken.

The woman lives with her husband who was at work, and her granddaughter who was at school.

Dead: Sita Reddy

Investigators have since questioned a neighbour who claimed that she saw the three men as they were entering the yard from the side entrance. Reports reaching Guyana Times International revealed that Reddy who works at the Texaco Gas Terminal at Providence, East Bank Demerara was on his way to work when he was stopped and detained by police at the Providence Police Station after he could not locate documents for his motor car.

Further information received revealed that the man telephoned his wife who was home at the time and enquired from her about the documents and instructed her to look for them.

However minutes later, he reportedly found them under his car’s seat, resulting in him trying to make contact with her to inform her that he found the documents and not to search, but the phone rang out. Norman reportedly attempted to make contact with his wife a few more times but to no avail. This prompted Norman to head home where he made the gruesome discovery.

When this publication arrived at the scene, a huge crowd had converged while the police were conducting their investigations. The house is heavily grilled and has a zinc fence in front.

From all indications, it would be a huge challenge for anyone to gain entry into the yard, unless someone opens the gate internally. It is unclear whether any valuables were missing from the home.

Ryan Harimal, son-in-law of the deceased explained that when Norman arrived home, there were no signs of the woman, but as he went in search of her, he recognised the upper flat of the house was ransacked and saw no signs of the woman, nor was she responding to his calls.

Harimal further stated that as Norman went in the lower flat of the house, and switched on the lights, he saw her in a pool of blood.

“Her neck almost cut off and she had some stab wounds,” the man said. He noted that the woman was robbed last March of more than Gy$ 2 million in cash and jewellery but no one was arrested and charged. “Meh mother-in-law always say that if anyone come again to rob her, she will fight back. She was a fit woman; she does go to gym and so,” the man noted.

Harimal noted that only last week, the house adjacent to Reddy was robbed, and again no one was apprehended and charged. A neighbour related that as soon as she heard the screams, she ran to the house and described the scene as “horrible”. ” If deh want any money, they should ah tek it and left the woman alone,” the neighbour added. She said that the last time she spoke with Reddy was Wednesday morning as her husband was heading to work. She described the woman as a friendly person.

The woman leaves to mourn her husband, six children, a few grandchildren and her siblings. Her body was taken to the Lyken Funeral Home where a post mortem examination is expected to be done.
