Regional Finance Director for all Courts businesses in the Caribbean, Dennis Harris, last Thursday, during a meet with Tourism, Industry and Commerce Minister, Manniram Prashad, indicated Courts’ interest in further expanding their business in Guyana.
Attending the meeting also, held at Prashad’s South Road office, was Courts (Guyana) Inc Interim Country Manager, Clyde de Haas, and Courts (Guyana) Finance Director, Steve Nauth.
In a release, Prashad said that government was very happy when Courts opened its doors in Guyana in 1996 and “revolutionised the whole concept of hire purchase,” creating competition in the market.
The minister acknowledged that they have, indeed, expanded over the years, setting standards in promotions, and have created opportunities by opening branches throughout the country. Prashad, according to the release, said Courts has always fulfilled its corporate social responsibility, and has been very supportive of his ministry.
Harris, who is based in Jamaica, said Courts’ is looking at the potential for expansion of their investments in Guyana. He thinks that the government of Guyana has done very well in managing the economy, noting that since Courts’ establishment here, they have been growing and expanding.
He noted that the furniture giant has also opened a new chain of three stores in Guyana called ‘Lucky Dollar’. Harris assured the minister that the company, which has 10 stores already in Guyana, continues to strive towards building upon the Courts brand and quality of service.
Courts Inc. currently operates over 93 stores in 11 Caribbean countries: Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Lucia, and Trinidad.
