Corentyne man to be charged for wife’s murder

The husband of the Corentyne woman, who had claimed she stabbed herself last Saturday and subsequently died on Monday, is expected to be charged for her murder soon, according to police sources.

Based on reports reaching this publication, the man confessed to murdering his wife on Wednesday while in the presence of police investigators.

It was previously reported that 55-year-old Chanmoney Charlie called “Pilo” had told her relatives and doctors at the Skeldon Hospital that she inflicted a stab wound to herself following an argument with her husband on Saturday night, regarding her drinking habits.

Charlie is said to be an alcoholic.

It was reported that after being stabbed, the woman ran over to her relatives’ home and informed them that she had harmed herself.

As such, they rushed her to the Skeldon Hospital where she was treated and subsequently discharged. The wound was approximately one inch in depth.

On Sunday, Charlie went back to the hospital and indicated to doctors that she was not feeling well and they reportedly checked her wound, provided her with medication and sent her home.

However, on Monday night, relatives found the woman dead in her home. They had alleged that the woman died from internal bleeding and blamed the medical officials at the hospital for not treating the woman’s condition appropriately.

Police had taken the woman’s husband into custody to verify whether it was indeed a suicide attempt that led to Charlie’s death. After being interrogated by officers the man reportedly confessed to stabbing his wife.
