Brentnol Isaacs, called “Tonguie”, 31, of 118 Ithaca Village, West Bank Berbice was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital later that night. Police spokesman Ivelaw Whittaker disclosed that based on investigations, Isaacs was among a group of men drinking when an argument ensued between him and another man, during which he was chopped about the body.

Joan Isaacs, an aunt of the deceased man, explained that she was at home about 21:30h when she received a telephone call from a niece, requesting that she “come down to the shop”. Upon enquiring why, she was told that “Tonguie” was chopped badly.
“Where blood is concerned, I don’t go close, so I tell them to take him to the hospital and keep me posted,” said the aunt. She said, on reaching the Fort Wellington Hospital, she learned that, as a result  of the severity of injuries, her nephew was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital for further medical attention.
The distraught woman stated that after a while, she received another telephone call, informing her that Brentnol had passed away. She said he apparently died on the way to the hospital.
Joan said she last saw Brentnol on Saturday afternoon about 16:00h, while he was liming in the village, but he later went to the neighbouring community of Zorg-en-Hoop. She said he was drinking with some persons when an argument broke out. The attackers reportedly picked up a cutlass and dealt him several chops about his body.
Bystanders at the scene said Brentnol, a father of one, fell to the ground bleeding profusely.
