Residents of Linden, Region 10 will now be able to access additional banking services from today with the commissioning of Citizens Bank’s spanking Gy$ 225 million branch on Wednesday.
The facility, which is located on Republic Avenue, was declared open by Finance Minister Dr Ashni Singh in the presence of Managing Director of the bank Eton Chester and other regional and national executives.
The finance minister, during his feature address, applauded the financial institution for fulfilling its promise made to the people of Region 10.
According to Singh, the creation of banking entities such as Citizens Bank’s Linden branch is made possible owing to the fair financial policies that were established by the present administration. “If you look at profitability, if you look at growth and assets, if you look at total growth in lending, you will see what I mean,” Dr Singh said.
The finance minister said that the financial environment is among contributing factors that have led to the erection of a Citizens branch in Linden. Another factor that has aided in the bank becoming a reality is the fact that Linden is moving from being a town solely dependent on bauxite to a community that is diversifying. “From the inception, our government developed an economical diversification plan; we have already achieved gains in this regard.”
Citizens Bank Managing Director Eton Chester said the establishment of a branch in Linden speaks to the magnitude of the entity’s strategic plan to offer its services all across Guyana. He promised potential customers a high level of banking services, as he encouraged them to capitalise on the many opportunities that will be offered.
“Here at our newest location, we will provide customers with better access to our suite of products and services,” Chester assured.
Headed by Manager Lytton Thompson with a 16-member staff, the new branch pledges to offer customers a wide range of services, namely retail banking products like saving accounts inclusive of the Jackpot, Junior Savers and Golden Grand accounts; current/ chequing accounts; certificates of deposits; consumer financing for the purchase of motor vehicles and residential mortgages, including special low income mortgages; and home equity loans.
Additionally, commercial and corporate clients will have access to deposit products, including cheque accounts, money market accounts, and Excel saving accounts.
Branches were also erected in Parika, Bartica Thirst Park and now in Linden.
