The fire jugglers and the climbing girl were the highlights of the final night of the GT&T sponsored Circus of Dreams at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, East Bank Demerara on Sunday evening. Despite a late start, the thousands of patrons who flocked the venue were thrilled and were left in bemusement as the members of the renowned circus entertained for more than two hours; and what a two hours it was.
The fire jugglers performed to perfection and had the crowd on the edge of their seats wondering if any of them will get burnt.
Their skilful presentation was nothing but exciting, energetic and excellently coordinated. The two young men who hail from the Dominican Republic were rewarded with loud roars of applause across the ground upon completing their routines.
They later returned with another breathtaking performance, moments before the curtains came down on the most well-attended of the three nights.
In addition, the aerial contortionist also had the audience at the edge of their seats as she used two pieces of cloth that were attached to one of the bars on the roof of the stage to perform one of the most difficult routines. As she made her way up the cloth, her talent and coordination fascinated the audience. The children and even the adults were definitely not blinking as the young woman from Argentina performed her masterpiece. She later returned with another spectacular performance in the form of an acrobatic presentation on a table. Her performance was a display of tremendous energy, talent and flexibility.
The audience cheered lustily as she concluded her piece. Other performances by cast members also stunned the massive crowd with their risky and well executed acts. A couple from New York City had the audience laughing heartily as they did their piece. The crowd was also treated to the sight of scissors and knives of various lengths being swallowed.
