Chinese oil firm expresses interest in investing in Guyana

Officials of China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), the largest offshore oil and gas producer in China, paid a courtesy call on Natural Resources and Environment Minister Robert Persaud recently to discuss bilateral cooperation on petroleum and other related areas of investment in Guyana.
The team included CNOOC Overseas Exploration Inspector Cui Hanyun and CNOOC South America Exploration Project Manager Hu Gencheng, while Guyana Geology and Mines Commission Commissioner Karen Livan and other technical officers were also present. The meeting centered on the enhancement of mutual understanding; oil exploration in Guyana; the requirements (such as laws and regulations) for foreign investment in oil in Guyana; as well as the investment environment, infrastructure, ports, etc; and general cooperation with the ministry in the area of training and obtaining data about oil exploration in Guyana. CNOOC has been engaging the government of Guyana since early 2010.
