Central Essequibo crowned ECB/ Rickey Toney champions

Central Essequibo clinched the inaugural Essequibo Cricket Board (ECB)-sponsored Rickey Toney Twenty/ 20 competition after a comprehensive seven-wicket victory over archrivals South Essequibo in the final on Saturday evening at the Anna Regina Community Center ground.

Asked to bat first South Essequibo were bowled out for 109 in the 19th over with opener former national under-19 vice captain Royan Federicks top scoring with 32 while Jagdesh Dindyal supported with 17. Medium pacer Ganesh Mangal bagged 4-7 off four overs while Latchman Rohit took 2-20 bowling for the eventual winners, who in reply hardly encountered any difficulty to reach the winning target in 15 overs, ending on 112- 3.

Former National Under-19 cricketer Herell Green and Essequibo’s senior inter-county batsman Yougeshwar Lall were their leading batsmen with 37 and 21 respectively. Green took the Batsman-of-the-final trophy while Mangal collected the award for the best bowler. Central received Gy$ 250,000 while South got Gy$ 100,000.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony Rickey Toney of Toney’s Elite Styles thanked the teams for participating and said next year’s competition will be bigger and better.
