Trinidad national security minister ‘deeply hurt’ by offences by army officers

Trinidad and Tobago National Security Minister, Brigadier John Sandy, has said that he is saddened and “deeply hurt” by the growing number of defence force personnel appearing before the courts for various infractions. Jamaica to exempt Caricom nationals from work permits

The Jamaica government will soon introduce an amendment to the Foreign Nationals and Commonwealth Citizens Bill to allow certain categories of Caricom nationals to work without a work permit. Information Minister Daryl Vaz said that the Cabinet, at its usual meeting last week, gave the green light for the Bruce Golding administration to introduce the new piece of legislation. Venezuela’s Chavez celebrates 12 years in power

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has marked his 12th anniversary of coming to power by urging supporters to press ahead with his socialist revolution. Chavez asked Venezuelans to forgive any “mistakes” he had made in office. Church leaders in Grenada have restated their objection to casino gambling after Swedish developers Zublin confirmed resubmitting a controversial tourism development project rejected by the government last year. A top United States immigration official says that a year after the devastating earthquake in Haiti, the Obama administration has received more than 53,000 applications from Haitians seeking Temporary Protected Status (TPS) in the U.S., disclosing that it has approved the vast majority. Grenada’s Finance Minister Nazim Burke Grenada’s Finance Minister Nazim Burke on Thursday presented an EC$203.7 million capital budget. It is EC$44.7 million more than last year’s, or an increase of 35.6 per cent.
