Caribbean countries warned as major earthquakes hit Puerto Rico

The Trinidad-based Seismic Research Centre (SRC) of the University of the West Indies (UWI) Tuesday said that the recent earthquakes in Puerto Rico should serve as a reminder to the Caribbean, “that our region is seismically active and we always need to be prepared”. On Monday an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.7 rocked Puerto Rico and it was followed by a stronger quake with a magnitude of 5.4 on Tuesday. A pensioner was on Tuesday morning killed after she was struck down while using a pedestrian crossing at Nigg Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice. Guyana’s Auditor General says recommendations to improve accountability being ignored

Every year, the Audit Office of Guyana audits public financial records, unearths corruption and makes recommendations so the Government can tighten up the system. As of last year, however, the Office is complaining that many of its recommendations are being ignored. Minister of Public Infrastructure, David Patterson has asserted that if the APNU/AFC government is re-elected, the East Coast Demerara-East Bank Demerara bypass road will be completed by 2022. The teen accused of killing a homeless man in Corriverton Market, Berbice was on Wednesday slapped with a murder charge and hauled before Magistrate Alex Moore. Dave Jacobs, 19, is accused of killing Richard Persaud Kamaldeo, called “Tyie”, on January 3, 2020.
