Caribbean Airlines to launch non-stop flight to Toronto in December

Caribbean Airlines Limited (CAL), which has been serving Guyana for the past 10 years, will be launching its non-stop services to Toronto, Canada on December 4. This announcement was made by CAL Sales Manager (Guyana and Suriname) Deon Innis, on Friday evening at GuyExpo, at the Sophia Exhibition site.

Recently at his weekly press briefing, Presidential Secretariat head, Dr Roger Luncheon stated that the government approved the Trinidadian carrier’s plan to operate its non- stop flight from Georgetown to Toronto. Immediately after that announcement, CAL Country Manager Carl Stuart had indicated the company’s optimism in providing the service, but alluded that a number of mechanisms have to be ironed out to facilitate the service.
However, in an invited comment, Innis stated that the entire Caribbean Airlines family is very elated to finally provide for its customers, particularly from Guyana and the diaspora in Toronto, the non-stop flight. He said a new contracted 767-300 aircraft with special seating and personalised entertainment systems will be flying the new route.
“The aircraft is expected to make its maiden touchdown at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport in the first week in November,” he added.
Innis said Guyanese have been very supportive of the Caribbean Airlines family and BWIA over the years – during the good times and the bad times – hence the company will continue to provide the services that are being requested by the travelling populace.
Noting that local carrier, EZjet is already flying the Guyana- Toronto route, he said CAL is accustomed to competition, since it is a competitive market. He reiterated that the airline has had major competition from the “fly-by-night” airlines but it has stood its grounds firmly.
“We are here to provide a continuous and reliable service to the public and the Caribbean at large; we will be here next week, next month, and the next 50 years, with optimism that we will continue to provide high standard services to Guyana,” he declared.
At this year’s GuyExpo, Caribbean Airlines used the opportunity to give back to its valued customers. Persons who visited their booths were given the opportunity to win trips to Canada and New York via a game.
