The Ontario Minister of Citizenship, Immigration, and Multiculturalism, Jason Kenney complimented the Guyanese managed Vishnu Mandir at a recent reception to honour outstanding individuals in the community. The Vishnu Mandir, which is a construct of the Voice of Vedas institution in Canada, has been doing work primarily among Caribbean and South Asian immigrants in Canada.

Praising the organization, Minister Kenney told a large gathering: “I cannot think of another institution that has contributed to Canadian society more than the Vishnu Mandir. It begins in the ancient and beautiful Hindu faith. The Mandir has become a place of teaching, healing, and sharing for all people across the GTA.”

The Toronto-based Vishnu Mandir has been involved in several projects which benefit Guyanese of all races and religious background. The organisation also annually supports charities in Guyana. It recently donated almost CN $50 K for renal dialysis equipment at the Georgetown Hospital.

The temple organises events and projects that enhance the lives of those in the community in the greater Toronto area. Several volunteers and associates work with the temple to boost the temple’s reputation.

The mandir assisted with the construction of the Monument for the fallen soldiers of Canada, which is located directly outside of the mandir.

The mandir also assisted with the construction of the Anand Bhavan which is a not-for-profit residence for seniors. The Bhavan is known to celebrate all major Guyanese festivals including Eid and Diwali. People from diverse religious backgrounds get along in perfect collaboration. The Bhavan provides entertainment as well as mental and other health benefits.

In comments to reporters and supporters of the mandir, spiritual leader of the Vishnu Mandir, Dr. Budhendra Doobay said: “The senior’s home isn’t enough. We need to provide medical care of our elderly and make sure they are comfortable.”
