Bux appointed Guyana’s representative to CSA

Former franchise holder of Miss India/Guyana Pageant, Umadevi Bux, was officially appointed the Guyana Representative for the Caribbean and Americas Commonwealth Students’ Association working group.
Bux is also the Regional Coordinator, Policy and Advocacy for the Commonwealth Youth Peace Ambassador Network and brings a wide array of knowledge and skills set to the above mentioned focus areas for Guyana via the International Commonwealth Youth Network.
The Commonwealth Students’ Association is the joining of student organisations within the Commonwealth. Their role is to be an independent advocate for students and brings students’ perspectives into the policy decision-making processes of the Commonwealth.
The CSA will amplify the voice of students and seek to enhance the role of students in the Commonwealth and in policy matters that affect their lives. The CSA will be the official platform for student associations and organisations in the Commonwealth and beyond.
During her two-year service with the Commonwealth Students’ Association, Bux will seek to advocate for better education policies in both private and State educational institutions for students across all regions in Guyana.
She will also be working alongside the CSA to lobby for student’s rights; Government and Private Sector involvement in the education sector and set up a working national student association. This will involve stakeholders to ensure positive impacts are made within the education sector for all parties involved.
Presently, Bux is the co-founder of Give Foundation Guyana, a non-profit organisation geared at bringing primary healthcare and assistance in any way possible to the less fortunate.
This organisation was founded in 2015 after over 10 years working with youth, both professionally and voluntarily. She began her professional experience as a teacher in 2006 at the Zeeburg Secondary School on the West Coast Demerara in Guyana, South America.
Bux served six years teaching English Language and English Literature. She was also a Journalist working with a leading national newspaper, Guyana Times.
She currently chairs the GIVE Foundation Guyana as the Founder/President, has sat as a member of the National Youth Parliament in 2011, where she served as the Youth Human Services Minster, wining the best analytical and reasoning debater award.
Bux is currently pursuing a Medical Degree in General Medicine at the Texila American University in Guyana, South America.
