Brooklyn Shooting -Widow optimistic justice will be served

Cheryl Mercurius, 54, is both shocked and angry at the brutal killing of her husband, Aubrey Mercurius last Monday in Brooklyn New York. Mercurius, 53, formerly of Bagotsville, West Demerara, Guyana, died after being shot once in the chest at around 12:30am at his 912 Saratoga Avenue apartment.

In an interview with Guyana Times International, Mrs. Mercurius described her husband’s killing as “fuzzy, as he got hurt right there in the apartment.”

Reports are that Mercurius and a few friends were drinking just before the incident happened and no one heard or saw anything.

Mrs. Mercurius is optimistic that justice will be served for her husband’s murder and feels the police are close to nabbing the assailant. The still shaken widow said “he was such a gentle and very easy-going person, who did nothing to anybody.”

Aubrey was self-employed in the construction field. The two migrated to the United States in the 1980s. They have two sons: Jermaine, who celebrated his 28th birthday on the day his father was killed and Devon, 21.

Mrs. Mercurius says even though she and her husband were separated for some 10 years, he was her best friend up to the time of his death, “we had a very good relationship,” she told this newspaper.

The funeral is expected to take place on Monday 13th December, she said, adding that the family is waiting on the man’s mother, who is in Guyana, to come to the United States. The late Mercurius leaves to mourn his parents, eight siblings, wife, children and other relatives.
