Bosai’s operation in Linden is poised for major expansion with approximately US$ 100 million in investments that will allow the company to access greater quantities of ore and pursue further developments. During the meeting which also included Bosai Company Secretary Norman Mc Lean, President Ramotar suggested careful examination of all options available and technical teams from both the government and Bosai to make the analysis.
On the campaign trail of the November 28, 2011 general elections, President Ramotar had said he intended to make Region 10 a hub for the country’s development.
He had explained back then that negotiations would be brokered with the two bauxite companies that operate in the region, Bosai and the Russian Aluminum Company (RUSAL)) in an effort to convince them to expand their production and develop new products.
The company on September 28 fulfilled its social obligation to address the problem of dust pollution when a dust collector system for Kiln 14 was commissioned on Friday, with work in progress to install the second dust collector on Kiln 13.
Speaking at the commissioning of the kiln, Prime Minister Samuel Hinds had said that irrespective of the many downturns experienced in the bauxite sector, government has remained optimistic that things would have improved, and as such, the commissioning is an indication that there have been changes over the years.
