The two agreements were signed by Bosai Manager George Zhao, Senior Personnel Officer Vance Reid, and Personnel Officer Truedell Marks; while NAACIE’s General Secretary Kenneth Joseph and his branch president Linnel Warden signed for the union. The signing took place at the Watooka Complex in Linden in the presence of the Chief Labour, Occupational Safety and Health Officer Yoganand Persaud and the Interim Management Committee Chairman of the Linden Mayor and Town Council, Orrin Gordon.

The parties agreed to have wages and salaries increased by seven per cent for employees across the board effective from April 1, 2011 to March 31, 2012.

Prior to the signing of the documents, Persaud alluded to the fact that the agreements seek to improve the working conditions of employees. Persaud pointed out that the more comprehensive of the two agreements (CLA) covers 28 areas that are vital to development of the company and its workers.

The new Collective Labour Agreement would be effective for a four-year period spanning from April 1, 2011 to March 31, 2015.

BMGGI and NAACIE have agreed to have a new rate scale, with the replacement of acting foreman and lead hand premiums with Level 1 Grade 2 and Level 1 Grade 3 respectively.

Additionally, the Provident Fund was increased to Gy$40,000, or one week’s pay.

Joseph announced that the bauxite employees would also experience increases in their vocational allowances.
