Guyana and West Indies leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo was honoured by the Berbice Chamber of Commerce and Industry at a simple ceremony held on the Lawns of Republic Bank in New Amsterdam.

Bishoo, who hails from Chesney, Albion, Corentyne, has so far represented the West Indies in five Tests, eleven One Day Internationals and two T20s; and has also represented Guyana at all levels of the game. He was recognised for his elevation to, and sterling contribution in, West Indies colours.

Chairman of the proceedings, former Berbice cricketer and now treasurer of the Berbice Cricket Board, and member of the BCCI, Anil Beharry, highlighted some of Bishoo’s achievements so far. He mentioned the spectacular catch Bishoo took in the India verses West Indies match to dismiss Harbhajan Singh as one of the best he has ever seen.

Beharry urged Bishoo to continue to strive for higher heights, and to remain humble. He said more pleasantries will come Bishoo’s way.

In response, Bishoo thanked the BCCI for “recognising” him, and stated that he was humbled by the recognition.

He pledged to continue working hard to maintain his fitness, and to improve and maintain a high standard in his game.

He added that he would strive hard to make Berbice, Guyana and the West Indies proud. Bishoo was honoured with a trophy and a certificate of recognition from the BCCI.
